Education & Training

Durnford Medical Centre is affiliated to The North West Deanery and Manchester University Medical School and is involved in the Post-Graduate training of GP Specialist Trainees, the Under-Graduate teaching of Medical Students, and occasionally students from other disciplines such as Nursing.

We also occasionally participate in the training of doctors who have qualified overseas prior to their working within the NHS.

A GP Specialist Trainee is an experienced, qualified and registered doctor who is undertaking specialist training to become a fully qualified GP. A Specialist Trainee is expected to perform all of the tasks of a qualified G.P. e.g. surgeries and visits etc. but under the educational supervision and responsibility of a suitably qualified and approved Specialist Trainer.

It is sometimes useful to video record consultations for teaching or assessment purposes. You will be informed if recording is taking place prior to the consultation, your verbal consent will be sought at the beginning and end of a recorded consultation and you may ask for recording to be stopped at any time, physical examinations will never be filmed directly although may take place "off camera" while recording continues to take place. Any recording made is subject to the same care and regulations as your written notes and will be deleted when no longer needed.

During re-accreditation for teaching and training it is sometimes necessary for medically qualified external assessors to examine patient records, they are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as all the other practice personnel, however if you do not want them to be able to see your records then please inform the practice in writing or using the "feedback" section of this website.
