Bowel Cancer Screening Saves Lives

Although the National Bowel Screening Programme is relatively new , a significant number of people completing the screening test have had bowel disorders, including bowel cancer, detected and successfully treated as a result.

Bowel cancer can go unnoticed until well established. Research shows that screening can detect cancers at an early stage. Early detection is important to successful treatment.

Most people who complete the test will have a normal result.

A small amount of blood in the sample gives an abnormal result but does not mean it is cancer. If you need further investigation or treatment, an appointment will be made for you to see a Bowel Screening Nurse Practitioner in clinic to discuss the result.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.

Breast screening is crucial at identifying breast cancer at an early stage. Early detection and improved treatment have improved survival rates dramatically.

We urge all our patients who are invited for breast screening to attend.

There are 6,000 deaths each year from ruptured AAA.

Men are invited for screening in the year that they turn 65. Men who are older than 65 who haven’t been screened can refer themselves on 0161 743 3699.

AAA screening is a simple 10 minute ultrasound test that could save your life. Please ensure that you have this test done.
